One of the songs sung during the Christmas season has no scriptural basis, but it captures the simple beauty of the birth of Christ in Bethlehem’s stable 20 Centuries ago. The song adds a little boy to the Christmas story. Like the shepherds who rushed from the nearby hillside to see the Christ-child, this boy to the manger. Unlike the Wise Men who arrived much late the little boy had no elegant gift to present. He only had his drum and his talent. His story is expressed in the song, “Little Drummer Boy.” (more…)

My Christmas Eve Tradition

For many years now, while out and about doing my shopping for Christmas gifts, I’ve picked up a few extra items. I pick up an extra blanket, some toasty slippers and a soft warm fleece top. On Christmas Eve after attending the candle light church service, I make a little detour on the way home. I find a retirement home and make a stop. It’s something I look forward to every year even though I am never sure what the evening has in store for me. I stop at the front desk and ask the nurses for one or two residents that don’t have family or never have any visitors. (more…)

I’ve been a good mom all year. I’ve fed, cleaned and cuddled my children on demand, visited the doctor’s office more than my own doctor, sold sixty-two cases of candy bars to raise money to plant a shade tree on the school playground. What Happened to Christmas?

What happened to the Christmas that I loved so much? We celebrated the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ. It was to Him that we gave the presents on that wonderful day, Just rejoicing in Him and loving our family and friends. This was what I was taught and wonder where it got lost.
